Caring Schools, Learning Placements: A Strategy for Looked-After Children

The Empower Committee has been championing the “Caring 2 Learn” programme.  It is funded through the DfE  (Partners in Practice) and monitored by Professor Claire Cameron of UCL. The programme aims to improve educational outcomes for looked-after children in schools across Lincolnshire. An initial pilot group of eight schools with their associated foster carers plus a lead from teaching schools, the LA’s fostering lead and the Institute for Education, will be implementing the first phase of the project to build a picture of what a “LAC-friendly” school looks like and how foster carers can be better supported to become more effective  champions of a looked-after child’s education. Following the conclusion of the pilot, the programme will be rolled out to all Lincolnshire schools.
